Aisha Yesufu has withdrawn from the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) senatorial race for the Federal Capital Territory ahead of the 2027 general election.

In a statement issued on Friday, the activist disclosed that the party would not be conducting primaries for the FCT senatorial seat, effectively bringing her ambition to a halt.

“Our party has decided not to conduct primaries for the senatorial seat in FCT Abuja. It however intends to conduct primaries for House of Representatives,” she said.

Yesufu called on her supporters to remain calm and stay focused on the broader political goal, particularly the presidential election.

“I urge everyone to remain calm and focus on the bigger picture, which is the presidential election. Nigeria will be OK,” she added, while thanking supporters of the #AishaForSenate campaign for their backing.

She also said she would continue political engagement across the FCT, revealing plans to visit all six area councils to appreciate residents and sustain advocacy for improved governance in the capital.

Yesufu had declared her intention to contest the FCT senatorial seat on May 6 after defecting from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the NDC, citing leadership experience within the party as a motivating factor.

Her withdrawal follows speculation that the party may have zoned or ceded the ticket to another aspirant, though the NDC has not officially confirmed the claim.
