Aiyedatiwa dismisses rumours of plot to remove deputy

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has denied reports suggesting plans to remove his deputy, Olayide Adelami, describing the claim as baseless speculation.

Adelami emerged as deputy governor after Aiyedatiwa was sworn in on December 27, 2023, following the death of his predecessor, Rotimi Akeredolu. Both leaders later contested and won the 2024 governorship election in the state.

The governor’s reaction followed a viral video in which a cleric predicted Adelami’s removal from office. Speaking during the inauguration of the Ayegunle–Iwaro Oka Akoko Expressway in Akoko South-West Local Government Area on Friday, Aiyedatiwa dismissed the claim as an attempt by attention seekers to create controversy.

He publicly acknowledged his deputy at the event and urged residents to ignore the video, insisting there was no plan to remove him.

Aiyedatiwa also used the occasion to highlight his administration’s focus on infrastructure, stating that road construction and rehabilitation remain central to his development agenda as his government marks its first year in office.

He described the commissioning of the roughly six-kilometre Ayegunle–Iwaro Oka road as a significant milestone, noting that the project was executed with durable materials to handle heavy traffic.

In addition, the governor inaugurated several road projects in Owo, including Opomulero Road, Iselu and Isuada Roads. He said the projects — covering about 3.5 kilometres and including the construction and rehabilitation of Falodun and Kajola roads — would improve connectivity, boost commerce, reduce travel time and enhance access within the town.

According to Aiyedatiwa, the projects reflect efforts to restore hope, improve living standards and drive steady development across the state.
