Aiyedatiwa reveals foiled plot to bomb Ondo govt house

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has disclosed that security operatives recently thwarted an alleged plot to bomb the Ondo State Government House, describing the operation as a major security breakthrough.

The governor made the revelation during an interview on Channels Television while reflecting on the security situation in the state following the conviction of suspects linked to the June 5, 2022 attack on St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Owo.

According to Aiyedatiwa, the foiled attack occurred about three to four months ago after intelligence reports alerted security agencies to the activities of a group of youths allegedly planning an attack on the seat of government.

He said the suspects had lodged in a hotel before moving into a rented apartment where security operatives reportedly discovered materials and equipment believed to be linked to the plot.

“Following intelligence reports, the police and Amotekun moved in, raided the location, arrested the suspects, and they remain in custody,” the governor said.

Aiyedatiwa noted that the motive behind the alleged plan remains unknown but said the incident highlights the persistent security threats facing the state.

He explained that many security successes often go unnoticed because attacks are prevented before they occur, stressing that security agencies remain on constant alert.

The governor also welcomed the conviction of individuals linked to the Owo church massacre, describing the judgment as a victory for justice and the families of the victims.

Recalling the attack, he described June 5, 2022, as a dark day for the state, noting that worshippers were targeted during a church service in an incident that left dozens dead and many others injured.

He said intelligence gathering and collaboration among security agencies, including Amotekun, the police, and the Department of State Services (DSS), eventually led to the arrest of suspects connected to the attack.

Aiyedatiwa stated that Ondo State has since strengthened its security architecture through enhanced surveillance, intelligence-sharing, and collaboration among security agencies and local communities.

He also renewed his support for state police, arguing that regional security outfits such as Amotekun would be more effective if empowered with greater operational authority.

The governor urged residents to disregard false security alerts and avoid spreading unverified information capable of creating panic, while assuring citizens that the government remains committed to protecting lives and property.

He added that security agencies continue to receive and act on intelligence reports daily to prevent potential attacks across the state.
