Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Wednesday inaugurated the Opebi-Mende-Ojota Link Bridge and the Multi-Agency Complex in Alausa — now renamed the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Administrative Complex — representing President Bola Tinubu at the high-profile commissioning ceremony in Lagos State.
Tinubu, who has been in Lagos for several days, was scheduled to personally commission about six key infrastructure projects executed under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration during a two-day working visit. Akpabio stepped in on his behalf.
“On behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I commission these projects,” the Senate President declared while cutting the ribbon.
The ceremony, captured in a video shared on X by Sanwo-Olu’s aide Jubril Gawat, was attended by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, Lagos East Senator Tokunbo Abiru, Sanwo-Olu, and other dignitaries.
The projects slated for commissioning across the two days include the Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge, the Lagos State Geographic Information Service building in Alausa, the Multi-Agency Complex, the Tolu Schools Complex in Ajegunle, the Maracana Stadium, and the Lagos Food Logistics Hub in Abijo — described by Sanwo-Olu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, as “iconic, transformative and legacy projects.”
Ahead of the events, the Lagos State Government announced partial road closures across key corridors. Commissioner for Transportation Oluwaseun Osiyemi said the temporary restrictions were necessary to ensure safety and the orderly conduct of the commissioning ceremonies.
Wednesday’s inauguration of the Opebi-Mende Link Bridge affected traffic in the Opebi-Allen, Ikeja, and Ojota areas between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. On Thursday, April 9, a similar window is expected to impact the Olodi Apapa and Ajegunle areas during the commissioning of the Tolu Schools Complex.
Motorists were advised to seek alternative routes during the affected periods to avoid congestion.
