Akwa Ibom police commissioner is dead

The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Waheed Ayilara, is dead.

It was gathered that Ayilara died at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) on Thursday, August 29, 2024.

It was learnt that the police commissioner died from prostate cancer complications.

His demise was confirmed by the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin.

The Akwa Ibom State Police Public Relations Officer, Timfon John, said the command will only issue a statement on Ayilara’s death after an official statement by his family.

Ayilara was deployed as Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police in February 2024.

He served as acting Lagos State Commissioner of Police in November 2023, succeeding Idowu Owohunwa.

He earned a law degree (LL.B) from the University of Ibadan (UI) and masters of law (LLM) from the University of Lagos (UNILAG).

Ayilara was appointed into the Nigeria Police Force as a cadet assistant superintendent of police on May 18, 1992, and has served in various capacities.
