Alake installs Dr. Samuel Oluwadairo as new Ogboye of Egbaland

The Alake of Abeokuta and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, HRM Oba Michael Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo III, on Tuesday installed High Chief Dr. Samuel Adeleke Oluwadairo as the new Ogboye of Egbaland, during activities marking the 20th Coronation Anniversary of the monarch.

The colourful ceremony, held on 18 November 2025, drew a large gathering of Egba Obas, titled chiefs, government officials, politicians, and business leaders from within and outside Egbaland.

Dr. Oluwadairo’s wife, Chief (Mrs.) Regina Oluwafisayo Oluwadairo, was also installed as the new Erelu-Ogboye of Egbaland.

The Ogboye title is one of the most senior and government-approved chieftaincy positions in Egbaland, with its holder serving as a statutory member of the Alake-in-Council, responsible for contributing to the administration of the Egba Kingdom.

Performing the installation, Oba Gbadebo prayed for divine wisdom and guidance for the newly installed chiefs, urging them to uphold integrity, show exemplary leadership, and discharge their responsibilities diligently.

In his acceptance speech, Dr. Oluwadairo expressed profound gratitude to the Alake for the honour, describing the title as a “call to service.”

He pledged to work for peace, unity, and economic development across Egbaland.

“I feel honoured and privileged to be installed as the Ogboye of Egbaland.

“I am committed, by the grace of God, to meeting the expectations of our revered monarch and the people of Egbaland,” he said, vowing to embark on empowerment initiatives that would promote prosperity in the region.

He also prayed for continued peaceful reign for the Alake and further progress for Abeokuta and Egbaland.

Chief (Mrs.) Regina Oluwafisayo Oluwadairo, the new Erelu-Ogboye, expressed joy at her installation, promising to support her husband in his new role while sustaining her developmental efforts as the Seriki Iya-Abiye of Egbaland.

The installation was part of a series of events marking Oba Gbadebo’s 20 years on the throne, having been crowned as the 10th Alake of Abeokuta on November 19, 2005.
