Alleged murder: Reps’ Majority Leader granted N500m bail, banned from visiting constituency

A Federal High Court sitting in Kano on Monday, March 6 admitted the Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Hon. Alhassan Ado-Doguwa, to N500 million bail in a case of alleged murder.

Ado-Doguwa (APC-Doguwa/Tudun Wada, Kano) is standing trial on a six-count charge of conspiracy, culpable homicide, causing grievous hurt, arson, inciting public disturbance and unlawful possession of firearms.

He was arraigned before a Senior Magistrate’s Court in a case of alleged murder on March 1.

Ado-Doguwa in a motion ex-parte through his lawyer, Mr. Nureini Jimoh (SAN), is seeking for the relief of interim injunction granting an unconditional bail pending hearing and determination of the substantive motion on notice.

The respondents in the suit are: Commissioner of Police Kano and Ibrahim Mansur-Yola.

Justice Muhammad Nasir-Yunus admitted the applicant to bail in the sum of N500 million and two reliable sureties.

He said one of the sureties must be a first class traditional ruler, while the second surety must be a State or Federal Permanent Secretary.

“The applicant must submit his International Passport to the court registry and should not visit his constituency until after the March 11 Governorship Election,” Nasir-Yunus said.

He adjourned the matter until March 20 for hearing.

The applicant presented a medical certificate from Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital as exhibit.

The applicant in his ex-parte is also seeking relief of interim injunction restraining the second respondent from taking any further steps in the murder case.

The applicant was alleged to have on February 26 conspired with others now at large shot one person to death, breach of public peace and burnt the office of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Tudun Wada Dankadai.
