Alli campaign group tackles Makinde over hunger, rising allocations

The Senator Sharafadeen Alli Campaign Organisation has criticised Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde over his handling of hunger and increased federal allocations to the state.

The organisation, in a statement signed by its Director of Media and Publicity, Bisi Oladele, described Makinde as “clueless” and “an embarrassment” to the people of Oyo State.

The group was reacting to comments attributed to Makinde in Lafia, Nasarawa State, on Monday, where he reportedly acknowledged that Oyo State had been receiving increased allocations from the Federation Account but said the additional funds had not translated into a reduction in hunger.

The campaign organisation said Makinde’s admission amounted to an acknowledgment of the impact of the economic reforms of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

It questioned why the governor would acknowledge increased federal allocations while complaining about the persistence of hunger in the state.

“If you have acknowledged that monthly, you have been getting more money from the federation account, who are you expecting to come and help you to fight hunger in your State? Is it President Tinubu?” the group asked.

The organisation also accused the governor of opposing local government autonomy in Oyo State, alleging that his administration had prevented local councils from exercising financial independence.

It argued that increased allocations should be accompanied by what it described as judicious use of public funds and effective governance at the state and local government levels.

The group further criticised Makinde’s political ambitions ahead of the 2027 elections, saying Oyo residents should reject what it described as an extension of his administration beyond 2027.
