Rotimi Amaechi
Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has assured that all coalition leaders will fully support whoever emerges as the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Amaechi made this known during a press briefing in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Wednesday, where he emphasized the coalition’s commitment to a transparent and credible primary process.
“The moment anybody emerges from the primary, all of us will support; that’s the agreement,” he stated.
“We insist on a free, fair, and transparent primary.”
The former Rivers State governor, who recently aligned with the ADC after leaving the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), also lamented the worsening economic situation in the country, urging the people of Rivers State to register with the ADC and vote out the APC-led government in 2027.
“Every Rivers man who means well for the state and the country should register with the new party to remove the current government and end the hunger and hardship Nigerians are facing,” he said.
The ADC has become the political platform adopted by a growing coalition of opposition figures aiming to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Among its ranks are notable politicians such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State governor Peter Obi—both major contenders in the last presidential election.
Other prominent figures in the coalition include former Senate President David Mark, who now serves as interim chairman of the group, and former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai.
At the coalition’s unveiling on July 2, David Mark described the alliance as a national rescue mission aimed at protecting Nigeria’s democracy and preventing it from sliding into a one-party state.
