The mother of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, Mrs. Mary Amaechi, has died at the age of 89.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by Amaechi’s media office, the family said the matriarch passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 16, 2026.
The statement described the late Mrs. Amaechi as a respected community women leader and devoted Christian whose faith, kindness and commitment to promoting peace and unity earned her admiration within and beyond her community.
It said she played a central role in keeping her family together and would be remembered for her warmth, compassion and unwavering support for others.
Amaechi and his family expressed appreciation for the condolences and prayers received since her passing.
The family said details of her funeral arrangements would be announced at a later date.
