World record holder Tobi Amusan has stormed into the women’s 100m hurdles final at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo after a commanding performance in her semifinal on Monday.
The Nigerian star clocked 12.36 seconds (-0.2) to finish ahead of the Netherlands’ Nadine Visser (12.45s) and Poland’s Pia Skrzyszowska (12.51s), sealing her fourth straight appearance in a World Championships final.
Amusan, who stunned the world in 2022 by becoming the first Nigerian and African to win the 100m hurdles world title, looks primed to reclaim the crown she lost in Budapest two years ago.
That historic Oregon run also saw her set the still-standing world record of 12.12 seconds in the semifinals before running a wind-aided 12.06 in the final.
Drawn in a stacked semifinal that featured Visser, Skrzyszowska, and USA’s Alaysha Johnson, Amusan’s victory underlined her determination and form heading into the final.
With momentum on her side, she now eyes a second world title to cement her legacy among athletics’ all-time greats.
