The Anambra State Government has ordered the closure of the New Auto Spare Parts Association (NASPA) Market at Nkwo Nnewi for one week over poor compliance with the directive ending Monday sit-at-home in the state.
The market was shut from midnight on Monday, February 23, 2026, and is expected to reopen on Monday, March 2, according to a public service announcement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor.
Authorities said the decision followed traders’ continued observance of the sit-at-home despite an earlier order by Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo directing residents and businesses to resume normal activities on Mondays.
The closure order was conveyed on behalf of the governor by the Special Adviser on Trade and Markets, Chief Evarist Uba, alongside other officials including the Special Adviser on Security, AVM Ben Chiobi (retd), and the Mayor of Nnewi, Hon. Echezona Anazodo.
The government advised traders and customers to stay away from the market during the shutdown to avoid possible enforcement actions by security agencies, warning that further closure could be imposed if compliance remains low after reopening.
State officials also noted that normal Monday activities have largely resumed across Anambra since the governor’s late January directive aimed at ending the sit-at-home practice.
