An angry mob on Wednesday attacked a member of the Zamfara State House of Assembly in Dansadau town, Maru Local Government Area, over allegations of poor representation and neglect of his constituents.

The lawmaker, Kabiru Mikailu, who represents Maru South Constituency, was reportedly assaulted by residents while accompanying Governor Dauda Lawal on a visit to the violence-prone community.

Residents accused Mikailu of abandoning the area since his election, alleging that he neither visited the community nor engaged with constituents during important occasions.

Some claimed he failed to attend Sallah celebrations in Dansadau and did not visit families affected by recurrent bandit attacks to offer condolences.

Security operatives were said to have stepped in to calm the situation and prevent further violence.

Governor Lawal was in Dansadau to officially flag off the reconstruction of the more than 90-kilometre Dansadau–Gusau road.

During the visit, he also directed the rehabilitation of the town’s General Hospital and approved the provision of solar-powered electricity to enhance living conditions.

The governor reassured residents of his administration’s determination to restore security, rebuild critical infrastructure, and improve the welfare of communities impacted by insecurity across Zamfara State.

In recognition of the visit, Governor Lawal was conferred with the chieftaincy title of Garkuwan Dansadau and turbaned by the Emir of Dansadau, Alhaji Garba Muhammad, Sarkin Kudu Dansadau.
