Another accident occurs on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway amid heavy gridlock

Another road crash has occurred along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, with a multiple-vehicle accident involving three trucks and a car recorded at Otedola, shortly before the bridge inward Berger.

The incident occurred on Wednesday amid heavy gridlock that has persisted on the highway since Tuesday, September 15, 2026, worsening the already difficult movement situation for motorists.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), in a statement, said its officers had been deployed to the scene to commence rescue and evacuation operations.

Personnel of the Nigerian Police Force and other relevant emergency responders were also said to have joined efforts to manage the situation and ensure a swift response.

The crash has further compounded traffic delays on the ever-busy highway, with LASTMA confirming that the resulting backlog has extended towards the Toll Gate area.

The agency said its teams are currently working to reduce the impact of the incident and restore normal flow of vehicles along the route.

LASTMA wrote on X: “A multiple-vehicle accident involving three trucks and a car has occurred at Otedola, just before the bridge inward Berger.

“Our officers have promptly mobilized to the scene to commence necessary interventions, including rescue and evacuation operations. Personnel of the Nigerian Police Force and other relevant first responders are also on ground to support and facilitate the operations.

“The incident has resulted in a traffic backlog extending to the Toll Gate. Nonetheless, traffic management efforts are ongoing to mitigate the impact and restore normal vehicular movement.”
