Anthony Joshua may retire from boxing after deadly car crash — Uncle

British-Nigerian boxing star Anthony Joshua is reportedly considering retirement from professional boxing following a tragic car accident in Nigeria that killed two of his close friends and team members.

The 36-year-old former world heavyweight champion — who survived the crash — informed his family of his intentions privately after the fatal incident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, according to his uncle, Adedamola Joshua.

The accident, which occurred last week, claimed the lives of Joshua’s strength and conditioning coach, Sina Ghami, and his trainer, Latif “Latz” Ayodele, both of whom were travelling with him when the Lexus SUV they were in collided with a stationary truck.

Joshua was extracted from the wreckage and taken to hospital but escaped with only minor injuries.

In the wake of the tragedy, Joshua has publicly expressed his grief.

He shared photos on social media standing with the bereaved families, captioned “My Brothers Keeper”, signalling his emotional commitment to supporting the loved ones left behind.

His uncle added that while the family understands the emotional strain that boxing has put on them over the years, they respect Joshua’s decision to step back from the sport if that is his final choice.

The driver of the vehicle, Adeniyi Kayode, has since been charged in connection with the crash and is due to appear in court later this month.
