APC chair secures Kabiru Gaya’s return

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, has reportedly secured the return of former Kano State Governor, Senator Kabiru Gaya, to the ruling party following a private meeting in Abuja.

Sources familiar with the development told Daily Nigeria that Yilwatda visited Gaya at his Yaounde Street residence on Monday night, where both men held a closed-door meeting lasting about 45 minutes.

According to the sources, Gaya, a leading figure in the National Democratic Congress (NDC), agreed during the meeting to rejoin the APC.

Although the details of their discussions were not made public, the meeting is believed to be part of the APC’s ongoing efforts to woo influential opposition figures ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Neither Yilwatda nor Gaya had issued an official statement on the reported defection as of the time of filing this report.

Gaya, a former governor of Kano State and ex-senator who represented Kano South, remains one of the North-West’s most influential political figures.

His return, if formally announced, is expected to boost the APC’s political strength in Kano ahead of the next election cycle.
