The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has resigned from his position, citing pressing personal matters.
In an official statement released by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the resignation takes immediate effect. Dr. Ganduje’s letter of resignation was submitted to the National Working Committee (NWC) through the party’s National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru.
Ganduje, who took over the leadership of the ruling party in August 2023 following the resignation of Senator Abdullahi Adamu, expressed deep appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the opportunity to serve at the highest level of the APC.
“In his letter, he expressed gratitude to the President and Commander-in-Chief, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the opportunity to lead the party,” the statement read.
Following Ganduje’s resignation, President Tinubu has directed that the Deputy National Chairman (North), Hon. Ali Bukar Dalori, immediately assumed the role of Acting National Chairman. A meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) is expected to be convened soon to formally address the leadership vacancy.
The party praised Ganduje for his efforts in fostering party unity and strengthening its democratic values.
The NWC highlighted his role in securing defections from opposition parties and upholding the party’s leadership legitimacy through court affirmations.
“Ganduje leaves his position with pride in our collective achievements,” the statement added, noting his recognition by both the NEC and the National Caucus earlier this year.
The APC reaffirmed its commitment to delivering good governance in line with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and extended its gratitude to Ganduje for his service. The party also offered prayers for his health and success in future endeavours.
Dr. Ganduje’s departure marks another chapter in the evolving leadership of Nigeria’s ruling party, as attention now shifts to the NEC’s next steps in confirming a permanent successor.
