The All Progressives Congress (APC) has elected new state executives in Imo and Katsina states following congresses held on Tuesday.
In Imo State, Chief Austin Onyedebelu emerged as the new State Chairman, while Onyekachi Ibezim was elected State Secretary. Both candidates were returned unopposed through a consensus arrangement at the congress held at Ndubuisi Kanu Square in Owerri.
Onyedebelu, from the Orlu zone, previously served as Managing Director of the Imo State Oil Producing Area Development Commission (ISOPADEC), while Ibezim is a former APC Chairman of Owerri Municipal Local Government Area.
In his acceptance speech, Onyedebelu pledged to build on the achievements of his predecessor, Dr MacDonald Ebere, and to unite the party ahead of future elections. Ebere, in his remarks, thanked delegates for their support and assured the party of his continued service.
The congress was attended by key party leaders, including Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma.
Meanwhile, in Katsina State, the APC also conducted its state congress, which produced Bashir Gambo Saulawa as State Chairman and Bala Abu Musawa as Deputy Chairman. Adnan Nahabu was re-elected as the party’s State Secretary.
At the zonal level, Samaila Garba was elected Zonal Vice Chairman for Funtua Zone, Yahaya Idris for Katsina Zone, and Musa Maikudi for Daura Zone. Newly elected zonal youth leaders are Alti Yahaya Mati (Funtua), Aliyu Aliyu Marafa (Daura), and Samaila Usman (Katsina), while Saratu Ibrahim Ɗanja (Funtua), Ladidi Umar Gwalele (Katsina), and Rashida Abdulkarim (Daura) emerged as zonal women leaders.
Other officials elected include Hassan Shuaibu Kawuri (Treasurer), Faruk Tsiga (Financial Secretary), Ahmad Hassan Mashi (Organising Secretary), Mamman Yaro Batsari (Auditor), and Ali Sani Iliyasu Runka (Legal Adviser).
Party stakeholders described the congresses in both states as peaceful and orderly, expressing confidence that the newly elected executives would strengthen internal cohesion and position the party for upcoming political contests.
