Army honours 22 soldiers after 35 years of service

The Nigerian Army has honoured 22 senior non-commissioned officers who completed 35 years of service, recognising their contributions to the military and national security.

The retiring personnel from Headquarters 3 Brigade and its affiliated units received cash gifts and other items at a send-off ceremony held at the Brigade Auditorium.

The event was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by Major Babatunde Zubairu, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, 3 Brigade.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Saka Jimoh, praised the retirees for their loyalty, discipline and dedication throughout their military careers.

Jimoh described the ceremony as a tribute to their courage, patriotism and sacrifices, noting that their service had contributed to the operational effectiveness of the Nigerian Army.

He said military service often required prolonged separation from families and the endurance of difficult conditions in the interest of national security.

According to him, the retirees’ 35 years in uniform reflected their commitment to defending the country and placing national interests above personal comfort.

The commander urged them to remain worthy ambassadors of the Army, uphold the values of discipline and integrity, and use their experience to mentor younger personnel.

He also encouraged them to contribute to their communities and national development, describing retirement as an opportunity for personal growth and continued service to society.

Jimoh advised the retirees to plan carefully for life after service, manage their resources prudently, acquire additional skills where necessary, and prioritise their health and well-being.

Speaking on behalf of the retirees, the outgoing Brigade Regimental Sergeant Major, Master Warrant Officer Suleiman Mohammed, thanked the commander for recognising their years of service.

Mohammed praised Jimoh’s generosity, encouragement and commitment to personnel welfare, describing the gesture as evidence of leadership that values the sacrifices of military personnel.

The ceremony ended with a luncheon attended by the brigade commander, senior officers and other personnel to celebrate the retirees and wish them success in retirement.
