Army, Plateau stakeholders meet to tackle communal attacks in Riyom

The Nigerian Army has held a stakeholders’ security meeting in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State as part of efforts to prevent communal attacks and strengthen peace among communities.

The meeting, held on Friday at the headquarters of Sector 6, Operation Enduring Peace, Makera, Riyom, focused on addressing recurring conflicts and developing measures to prevent isolated incidents from escalating into wider communal violence.

The engagement was attended by the General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander, Operation Safe Haven, Maj.-Gen. W.M. Dangana; the Chief of Staff, Joint Task Force Operation Safe Haven; the Commander, Sector 6; the Chairman of Riyom LGA; the Plateau State Governor’s Liaison Officer; and several traditional and community leaders.

Among the traditional leaders present were the Atta Aten of Ganawuri, Gwom-Rwei of Riyom, Dagwon Rwei of Bachi, Gwom Tahoss and Gwom Sopp, as well as representatives of the Plateau State Youth Council and other community stakeholders.

Participants deliberated on ways to respond to emerging security threats, prevent isolated attacks from triggering wider communal clashes and promote peaceful coexistence among communities.

The meeting also provided an avenue for security authorities and local stakeholders to strengthen communication, improve early response to threats and develop sustainable approaches to resolving security challenges in the area.

The Army said the engagement was part of broader efforts to consolidate peace and enhance security within the operational area through closer collaboration with traditional institutions, community leaders and other stakeholders.
