Army promotes 108 officers

The Nigerian Army Council has approved the promotion of 108 senior officers to the ranks of Major-Generals and Brigadier-Generals.

The promotion, comprising 35 brigadier-generals to the rank of major-generals and 73 colonels to the rank of brigadier-general, was approved at the council’s sitting on Thursday, December 19, 2024.

The Director of Army Public Relations, Maj.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, made this known in a statement on Friday, December 20.

Among those promoted to the rank of Major-Generals were Brig.-Gen. A Garba, acting Provost Marshal, Nigerian Army and Brig.-Gen. UM Alkali, the Deputy Chief of Administration, Directorate of Veteran Affairs.

Also promoted were Brig.-Gen. AGL Haruna, acting General Officer Commanding 7 Division and Commander Sector 1 North East Operation HADIN KAI and Brig.-Gen. IA Ajose, acting General Officer Commanding 8 Division and Commander Sector 2 North West Operation FANSAN YAMA.

Others included Brig.-Gen. NB Ebulue, Brig.-Gen. LG Lepdung, Brig.-Gen. OA Awolo, Brig.-Gen. UG Ogeleka, Brig.-Gen. OA Fadairo, Brig.-Gen. OD Williams, Brig.-Gen JR Lar, Brig.-Gen. AG Mahmuda and Brig.-Gen. VD Beryo, among others.

Nwachukwu quoted the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, as congratulating the newly promoted senior officers and their families.
Oluyede enjoined them to redouble their efforts to justify their elevation and confidence reposed in them.

He also tasked the newly promoted officers to lead by example and evolve “out of the box” ideas and innovations to speedily tackle contemporary security challenges bedevilling the nation.

The army chief added that the officers must remain committed to the oath of allegiance to defend the nation at all times and maintain unalloyed loyalty to the constitution of Nigeria.
