Troops under Operation Hadin Kai have seized more weapons and safely destroyed several improvised explosive devices during the ongoing Operation Desert Sanity V in the Sambisa Forest area of Borno State.
The mission, which took place at about 9 a.m. on December 29, was carried out by officers of the 21 Special Armoured Brigade working alongside local volunteers.
According to reports, the soldiers moved from their base and cleared a number of abandoned terrorist hideouts around the Dure axis before heading toward the Century Wolf area, south of Dure.
Although the area was covered with thick vegetation, nothing major was initially discovered.
The troops later reached the Sabil Huda enclave, believed to have been active but already deserted before their arrival.
Explosive experts then began scanning the location so it could be safely secured.
During the operation, the soldiers recovered several weapons, including AK-47 rifles, magazines, different calibres of ammunition, and hand grenades.
Structures used to support life in the enclave were destroyed, and four additional IEDs found in the area were safely neutralized.
