Arsenal, Barcelona, PSG win big in Champions League

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) led a night of extraordinary goal-fests in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night, demolishing Bayer Leverkusen 7-2.

Barcelona and PSV Eindhoven also hit six apiece, while Arsenal crushed Atletico Madrid 4-0 on a night that produced 43 goals across nine matches.

At the BayArena, PSG delivered a scintillating performance, with Desire Doue bagging a brace and teammates Willian Pacho, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Nuno Mendes, Ousmane Dembele, and Vitinha also on target.

Leverkusen briefly threatened through Aleix Garcia, who converted a penalty, but it wasn’t enough after teammate Alejandro Grimaldo missed an earlier spot-kick.

Both teams finished the first half with 10 men after Robert Andrich and Illia Zabarnyi were sent off.

Dembele, making his first appearance since winning the Ballon d’Or, added PSG’s sixth before Vitinha sealed the emphatic victory in stoppage time.

Elsewhere, Inter Milan maintained their perfect record with a 4-0 win over Union Saint-Gilloise in Brussels. Denzel Dumfries and Lautaro Martinez struck before half-time, with Hakan Calhanoglu converting a penalty and Pio Esposito completing the rout.

Arsenal also preserved their 100 per cent start in Europe, dismantling Atletico Madrid 4-0 at the Emirates Stadium.

All goals came in the second half — Gabriel Magalhães opened the scoring, Gabriel Martinelli doubled the lead, and Viktor Gyokeres added a late brace to end his seven-game goal drought.

In Spain, Erling Haaland and Bernardo Silva netted as Manchester City defeated Villarreal 2-0.

Borussia Dortmund recorded a 4-2 win away at FC Copenhagen, thanks to a Felix Nmecha double, a Ramy Bensebaini penalty, and a Fabio Silva strike.

Barcelona also bounced back from their defeat to PSG with a dominant 6-1 victory over Olympiacos at Montjuic.

Fermin Lopez bagged a hat-trick, Lamine Yamal converted from the penalty spot, and Marcus Rashford added two goals, while Ayoub El Kaabi scored a consolation for the Greek side.

At St James’ Park, Newcastle United made it back-to-back wins with a comfortable 3-0 triumph over Benfica, while PSV Eindhoven stunned Serie A champions Napoli 6-2 despite Scott McTominay putting the Italians ahead early on.
