Asari Dokubo demands court-martial of Naval Officer over clash with Wike

Former Niger Delta militant leader, Mujahid Asari Dokubo, has condemned the recent confrontation between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and a senior naval officer over a disputed plot of land in Abuja.

The altercation occurred when a naval officer, said to be acting on the instructions of former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo (rtd), reportedly blocked Wike and officials of the FCT Administration from accessing the property in question, leading to a heated exchange.

Reacting in a video shared on Facebook on Wednesday, Asari Dokubo described the officer’s conduct as gross misconduct, insisting that he should be reprimanded and court-martialled for insubordination.

He said, “I’m not taking sides with Wike; I’m taking sides with the law, the rules, and convention.

“What happened yesterday — in any sane society — that officer would have been detained and disciplined.

“The confrontation with the Minister of the FCT was uncalled for.”

Asari emphasized that Wike, as the Minister of the FCT, occupies the position of a governor and is constitutionally the chief security officer of Abuja, second only to the President.

He added, “I might not like Wike, our relationship has had its ups and downs, but in any sane country, that officer should have been court-martialled.

“It can’t happen anywhere outside Nigeria.”

The former militant leader further warned against the abuse of military privilege, stressing that no officer is above the law.

“There are laws in Abuja, and nobody has the right to develop land without following due process.

“A military officer is subject to the constitution — not above it,” he stated.

Asari also defended Wike’s decision to personally inspect the disputed property, saying the Minister’s presence demonstrated commitment to his duties.

“In an executive system of government, responsibility stops at the desk of the executive officer.

“I didn’t see anything wrong in the Minister going there.

“Nobody should tolerate such an affront from someone who, by law, ought to recognize him as a superior,” he concluded.
