The Senate has appointed the senator representing Kwara South Senatorial District, Oyelola Yisa Ashiru, as the new Deputy Leader of the upper chamber of the National Assembly.
The Senate also appointed Senator Nwebonyi Onyeka as the new Deputy Chief Whip.
Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, announced the new appointments at plenary in Abuja on Wednesday, October 18, 2023.

Ashiru of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was the Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate before his new appointment.
He, however, replaced David Umahi as the Deputy Leader of the Senate following the latter’s appointment as the Minister of Works by President Bola Tinubu.
