The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo (UNIMED) in Ondo State, has declared an indefinite strike over the non-implementation of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement and unpaid salary arrears.
ASUU announced the industrial action after its congress meeting on Thursday, August 27, 2026, following the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum issued to the university management.
The decision was contained in a communique issued at the end of the union’s congress and made available to journalists.
The communique was jointly signed by the Chairman of ASUU in the university, Comrade Abraham Oladebeye, and the Secretary, Comrade Adeniran Akinola.
The congress noted that the ultimatum expired without the implementation of the 2025 FGN-ASUU agreement and the payment of salary arrears from January 2026.
The union expressed dissatisfaction with what it described as the university management’s failure to implement the agreement despite the ultimatum.
It, therefore, directed all members to withdraw from all statutory academic duties, including lectures, continuous assessments, examinations, seminars, students’ research supervision, industrial training supervision and fieldwork.
