Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has arrived in Sokoto State for the presidential campaign flag-off of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), amid allegations by party supporters that security outfits were mobilised to block roads leading into the town.
Atiku, the ADC presidential candidate, arrived at the Sultan Abubakar III International Airport at about 1pm on Wednesday, accompanied by members of his campaign team.
He was received by his running mate, Rotimi Amaechi; former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal; former Minister and Kebbi State governorship candidate, Abubakar Malami; Manir Dan’Iya; and other party leaders.
The campaign flag-off is scheduled to hold at the ADC state secretariat along Ilorin Road.
Thousands of party supporters had gathered at the secretariat and adjoining roads to welcome Atiku and participate in the event.

However, one of the supporters, Abubakar Yusuf, alleged that the state government attempted to frustrate their movement through the mobilisation of the Sokoto Marshal and the Sokoto State Community Guard Corps to block roads leading into the town.
Speaking with our correspondent, Yusuf said the alleged action would not deter them from attending the campaign event.
“They mobilised the Sokoto Marshal and Community Guard Corps to block roads leading to the town, but we overwhelmed them,” he said.
He maintained that the supporters remained determined to participate in the campaign flag-off despite the alleged attempts to restrict their movement.
