Muhammad Babangida, the son of former military president Ibrahim Babangida, has denied reports circulating on social media that he rejected his recent appointment as the Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture (BOA) by President Bola Tinubu.

Babangida was alleged to have turned down the appointment in a letter dated Monday, July 21, 2025, and addressed to Tinubu.

The president had, last Friday, appointed Babangida as the BOA chairman.

His appointment was announced via a statement issued by Tinubu’s spokesman, Bayo Onanuga.

A viral letter dated July 21 quoted Babangida as saying that he decided to decline the appointment after “reflection and consultation”.

However, the former president’s son, in a statement on Monday, described the claim as false and malicious, saying it was a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and discredit the Tinubu administration.

The statement read in part: “We wish to clarify that Muhammed gratefully accepts the appointment as Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture, as announced by the federal government, and extends his sincere appreciation to President Tinubu for the trust and confidence bestowed upon him.

“We also want to assure the public that those spreading these falsehoods will be thoroughly investigated and brought to justice. We remain committed to transparency, accountability, and fostering unity within our nation.”
