Bandits abducted six residents of Hayin Gizo, a suburb of Garun Kurama in Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State, during a late-night raid on Sunday.
The armed attackers reportedly stormed the community at about 1:30 a.m. and operated until 3:00 a.m., abducting six individuals—five men and one woman.
According to a local source who spoke anonymously, the woman was later released due to her poor health.
Among the kidnapped victims are two Igbo traders known in the area, while the rest are said to be local peasant farmers.
The source called on security agencies and concerned individuals to act swiftly to ensure the safe release of the victims, stressing that their families are too poor to pay ransoms.
Lere and several other local government areas in Southern Kaduna—including Kauru, Kachia, Zango Kataf, and Jema’a—have seen a recent spike in kidnappings and armed attacks, raising concerns over worsening insecurity in the region.
