Bandits kill 4, kidnap 11 in Sokoto

Bandits have killed no fewer than four persons and abducted 11 others in an attack on Giyawa village in Goronyo Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The Sokoto State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ahmed Rufai, who confirmed the incident to journalists in Sokoto on Thursday, September 14, 2023, disclosed that the bandits carried out the attack in the early hours of Thursday and abducted 18 victims.

Rufai said seven of the abducted victims escaped from the gunmen.

He said: “Alongside their captives, the attackers also made off with valuable livestock and other possessions, leaving devastation in their wake.

“However, seven of the abducted individuals managed to escape from their captors and bravely returned to their community.”

Rufai added that the police were resolutely pursuing the assailants, saying: “We are dedicated to restoring normalcy to Giyawa village and its environs, sparing no effort to bring those responsible to justice and provide the shattered community with the security and peace it so needs.”
