At least four people have been killed and several others injured after armed bandits launched attacks on villages in Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
Residents said the gunmen stormed Karakkai village at about 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, shooting indiscriminately and causing widespread panic. Villagers reportedly resisted the assault, forcing the attackers to withdraw.
However, the bandits later advanced to nearby Gwargwabe village in the Nahuche District, where they set multiple houses ablaze.
Four residents were burned to death in the fire, while about 10 livestock and no fewer than 50 grain silos were destroyed. Three others sustained gunshot wounds during the violence.
Joint security personnel and emergency responders visited the affected communities on Friday morning to assess the damage. The injured were taken to a hospital in Nahuche for treatment, as authorities work to assist displaced families and restore normalcy.
Locals have called on the government to boost security presence in rural areas to prevent further attacks.
