Bandits kill one, abduct 15 others in Niger community

Bandits have killed one person and abducted 15 others in Batagari Village in Maikujeri District of Rafi Local Government of Niger State.

Those kidnapped, it was learnt, were majorly women, when the gunmen invaded the community on Sunday evening in the Maikujeri district.

The bandits were said to have arrived the area in their numbers on motorcycles and started shooting sporadically in the air and created panic as the villagers took to their heels for safety.

A source from the area who would not want the name mentioned explained that afterwards, the bandits ransacked people’s homes and carried away their valuables.

The source stated: “Majority of those kidnapped were women. Nobody knows where the victims are now. We are still waiting for the bandits to make contact. As at now their families have not been contacted. We are all in a state of confusion now.”

Efforts to get the reaction of the Niger State Police Command failed as calls and messages sent to the Public Relations Officer, PRO, DSP Wasiu Abiodun were not responded to at the time of filing in this report.
