Barcelona midfielder, Gavi, has torn his Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) in his right knee and will be out for a period of eight to nine months.
The 19-year-old player suffered a knee injury during Spain’s UEFA Euro 2024 qualifier against Georgia on Sunday night and had to be taken off in the 26th minute of the match.
Speaking in a statement on Monday, Barcelona said initial tests conducted by the Spanish national team had led to suspicion about the ACL injury and further examinations done by the club’s staff today confirmed the worst fears.
The club stated: “Test carried out on Monday morning on the first team player Gavi have shown that he has a complete tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and an associated injury to the lateral meniscus.

“As per initial reports, Gavi’s season is over and he will miss the Euros and the Olympic Games in the summer of 2024 as well.
“An exact recovery period will likely emerge once he undergoes surgery, which is expected to happen in the coming days.
“However, Javi Miguel of AS is reporting that the 19-year-old La Masia graduate could be out for a period of eight to nine months, meaning his return could be in the early parts of the next season.”
