Security has been tightened across Bauchi State ahead of the 2026 Local Government Council elections scheduled for Monday, August 17.

The election will be held across the state’s 20 local government areas, with security personnel deployed to polling areas to safeguard voters, electoral materials and other stakeholders.

The Bauchi State Police Command said the measures were part of arrangements to ensure a peaceful and orderly election.

The command warned political actors and residents against actions capable of disrupting the exercise, including electoral violence, ballot box snatching, thuggery, vote buying, voter intimidation and other forms of interference.

It said anyone involved in such acts, including sponsors and accomplices, would be arrested and prosecuted.

The command also assured residents that security personnel deployed for the election would maintain neutrality and professionalism while respecting human rights and operating within the law.

Residents were urged to come out and vote without fear and to report suspicious activities to security authorities.
