The Bayelsa State House of Assembly has suspended the Chairperson of Sagbama Local Government Area, Alice Allen Tangi, and her deputy, Sufade Jefferson Tobi, over alleged gross misconduct.
The suspension was approved during plenary on Tuesday, August 18, following consideration of a motion by members of the Assembly.
The Speaker, Abraham Ingobere, said the decision was taken pursuant to Section 22, subsections 6 and 7 of the Bayelsa State Administration Law 2000.
Following the Assembly’s decision, security was reportedly strengthened across Sagbama, particularly around the local government secretariat, government buildings and other strategic facilities.
Security agencies have also continued to monitor the situation to prevent a possible breakdown of law and order following the suspension.
The Assembly’s action is expected to trigger further administrative and political developments as the relevant authorities implement the decision.
Further details on the allegations against the suspended officials and the next steps are expected to emerge as the process continues.
