Bayelsa govt keeps mum as PDP mourns deputy governor

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed sadness over the sudden death of Bayelsa State Deputy Governor Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.

The deputy governor was reported to have died at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Yenagoa after collapsing in his office on Thursday, December 11, 2025.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, the party described Ewhrudjakpo as a loyal, steadfast, and principled statesman whose commitment to service and integrity remained unwavering throughout his political career.

Ememobong stated that the news of the deputy governor’s death has thrown the National Working Committee led by Kabiru Turaki (SAN), as well as the entire PDP family, especially members in Bayelsa State, into deep mourning.

Ememobong said: “While alive, Senator Ewhrudjakpo was an honest and consistent politician who believed in and practiced politics with principle.

“He was a person of conviction, not convenience; a leader whose life was anchored on belief, integrity, and strength of character. He held firmly to these virtues until his final moments.

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of this hero of political integrity, and we pray that God grants his soul eternal rest.

“We express our heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Bayelsa State on this painful and irreparable loss.
