The Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Lagos West, the Right Reverend Dr. James Odedeji, has encouraged Christians to remain confident in God’s promises, saying that the birth of Jesus Christ is a reminder that God is faithful, even in difficult times.
Preaching during the Christmas Day service at the Archbishop Vining Memorial Church Cathedral, GRA Ikeja, Bishop Odedeji said Christmas represents hope for a troubled world and the restoration of humanity’s relationship with God.
According to him, although God’s promises may seem delayed, they are always fulfilled.
He described the birth of Christ as more than a historical event, but the fulfilment of God’s word passed down through generations.
Reflecting on national issues, Bishop Odedeji expressed optimism that Nigeria would experience peace and renewal, insisting that “nothing is impossible with God.”
He added that one of the greatest blessings of Christmas is the assurance of God’s presence, symbolized in the name “Immanuel,” meaning “God with us.”
He noted that in God’s presence, believers can find comfort and peace, despite the challenges they face.
The service was attended by the bishop’s wife, Dr. Lydia Odedeji, church legal officers, clergy, and members of the laity.
Special prayers were offered for Nigeria, the church, and families dealing with hardship or bereavement.
Christmas, which commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ, is one of the most significant celebrations in the Christian calendar and is observed by millions of worshippers worldwide.
