Blackout as national grid collapses

Nigerians have been thrown into a blackout following the collapse of the national grid on Sunday, February 4, 2024.

It was gathered that power generation on the national grid crashed to zero megawatts at about 1 p.m. on Sunday.

Data from the Ministry of Power revealed that electricity generation on the grid dropped from 2,407MW at about 11:50 a.m. to 31MW by 12 p.m. on Sunday, before collapsing to 0MW an hour later.

FG: Why there’s nationwide blackout

This led to a nationwide blackout as power distribution companies blamed it on the collapse of the national grid managed by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

Confirming the development, the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company said the loss of bulk power supply left Kaduna, Sokoto, Zamfara, and Kebbi states in darkness on Sunday.
