Nigerian rapper Emeka Akumefule, popularly known as Blaqbonez, has opened up about his recent weight loss, attributing it to poor eating habits while traveling abroad.
Fans grew concerned after the rapper shared a photo on X, where he appeared noticeably leaner while dressed in a British-inspired outfit — a turtleneck, shirt, and skirt, paired with loose dreadlocks.
Reactions quickly poured in, with some followers asking if he was seriously ill, prompting him to address the speculation.
In a candid post, Blaqbonez explained that he has been struggling to eat while away from Nigeria due to his strong preference for local cuisine.
He revealed that he has spent nearly two months on the road, working tirelessly on the final phase of his upcoming album — an effort that has left him with little appetite and few food choices he enjoys.
“My problem is I only like Nigerian food, so whenever I leave the country, I struggle to eat.
“I have been on the road for almost 2 months, barely eating, cos I want to give you guys the best album experience ever.
“I’d add some weight soon. No excuses,” he wrote.
Despite concerns over his appearance, Blaqbonez assured fans that he is healthy and committed to bouncing back physically while delivering what he calls his best project yet.
The rapper rose to mainstream success with his 2021 debut album Sex Over Love and further cemented his status with the 2023 follow-up Emeka Must Shine, which earned him a spot on Rolling Stone’s “50 Innovators Shaping Rap’s Future” list.
