The Nigerian Senate has called on the Federal Government to establish a military base in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State to address the renewed threat of Boko Haram in the region and across other North-East states.
This resolution was adopted during Wednesday’s plenary in Abuja following a motion sponsored by Senator Aminu Abbas (PDP–Adamawa) and co-sponsored by all senators from the North-East geopolitical zone.
The motion was titled, “Resurgence of Boko Haram Activities in Hong and Gombi Local Government Areas, Adamawa and Other North-East States.”
While commending the efforts of security forces in combating insurgency, the Senate emphasized the need to reinforce existing military and security personnel in the area through the establishment of a dedicated base.
The Senate also urged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to promptly provide relief materials to affected communities, many of which have suffered extensive displacement and property loss due to the attacks.
In presenting the motion, Senator Abbas highlighted the devastating impact of recent Boko Haram assaults, particularly in Hong LGA, where thousands of residents have been rendered homeless.
He added that the insurgent activities are not isolated to Adamawa alone but also affect Borno and Yobe states.

The Senate’s recommendations aim to strengthen national security efforts and bring relief to communities still grappling with the effects of terrorism in Nigeria’s North-East.
