Bricklayer jailed for stealing 2 ceiling fans

An Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court in Ogun State has sentenced a 46-year-old bricklayer, Temitope Oladimeji, to one year in prison for stealing two ORL ceiling fans.

Magistrate V. B. Williams-Oyetunji sentenced Oladimeji after he pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing levelled against him on Thursday, May 9, 2024.

Williams-Oyetunji ordered that the bricklayer should serve his term without an option of a fine.

During trial, the prosecutor, Inspector Lawrence Olu-Balogun, told the court that the convict committed the offence in November 2023.

Olu-Balogun said the offence was committed at the Nigerian Navy Secondary School in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

Bricklayer jailed 8 months for stealing 12 bags of cement

He said Oladimej, who was engaged as a bricklayer by the school, was discovered to have been stealing valuables whenever he visited the school.

The prosecutor added that when the school noticed that some of its properties were missing, the bricklayer was the key suspect.

“The authorities decided to send some officials to his (Oladimeji) house and on getting there they found the two ORL ceiling fans valued at N39,000 belonging to the school,” Olu-Balogun said.

Olu-Balogun told the court that after the bricklayer was arrested, he confessed to being behind the thefts of the other missing items.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened Sections 383 and 390 of the Criminal Law of Ogun State, 2006.
