Brighton thrash Arsenal 3-0 to go third in Premier League

Brighton produced a dominant display to stun Arsenal 3-0 at the Amex Stadium on Saturday, climbing to third in the Premier League table and ending the Gunners’ unbeaten start to the season.

Pascal Gross opened the scoring in the first half with a superb strike from outside the penalty area after being set up by Charalampos Kostoulas, giving the hosts a deserved lead.

Brighton doubled their advantage just before the break when Kostoulas produced a stunning long-range effort that left Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya with no chance.

The Seagulls completed the rout early in the second half as substitute Chema Andres met a corner with a clinical finish to make it 3-0 and cap an impressive team performance.

Fabian Hurzeler’s side controlled much of the contest, frustrating the reigning champions with disciplined defending and incisive attacking play.

Arsenal, who arrived at the Amex with a perfect league record, struggled to create clear-cut opportunities and were outplayed by a Brighton side full of confidence.

The victory moves Brighton into third place in the Premier League standings, continuing their impressive start to the campaign, while Arsenal suffered their first league defeat of the season.
