Former President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated the Emir of Gwandu, Major-General Muhammadu Iliyasu Bashar (CFR, mni), on his landmark victory at the Supreme Court, which brings to an end a protracted 20-year legal battle over the throne.
In a phone call from London, where he is currently residing, Buhari expressed his heartfelt joy over the court’s decision in favour of the Emir, describing it as a well-deserved and long-awaited vindication.
Buhari and the Emir share a longstanding personal and professional relationship, having been course mates in the military.
Speaking during the call, the former president praised the Emir’s dedication to service and his resilience throughout the legal ordeal.
“You have always worked for the betterment of your people and the nation, even under those circumstances,” Buhari stated.
“I hope you will continue to promote peace, happiness, and prosperity of the people in Gwandu Emirate and beyond.”
He further expressed gratitude to Allah for the outcome of the case and offered prayers for the Emir’s continued good health and long life.
The Supreme Court ruling marks the end of a decades-long contest between the Emir and his challenger, Major Haruna Jokolo (Rtd), who had earlier been deposed.
The decision reaffirms Emir Iliyasu Bashar’s rightful place on the throne, bringing relief and celebration to the Gwandu Emirate.
