Buhari’s nephew, Mamman Daura, hospitalised in London

The nephew to late former President Muhammadu Buhari, Mamman Daura, has been admitted to a hospital in London, the United Kingdom.

Vice President Kashim Shettima’s spokesman, Stanley Nkwocha, confirmed Daura’s ill health in a statement on Monday, July 13, 2025.

Nkwocha issued the statement to provide information on Shettima’s trip to London.

The vice president arrived in London on Monday on the directive of President Bola Tinubu, following Buhari’s death on Sunday.

Nkwocha disclosed that Daura is sick and has been admitted to a London hospital, where he is recuperating.

He said: “On behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, upon arrival in London, met with and condoled with the family of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari in London.

“The Vice President also visited the late President’s nephew, Malam Mamman Daura, who is recuperating in a London hospital.

“The condolence visits were conducted while the Vice President awaits the conclusion of procedures and documentation for the repatriation of former President Buhari’s body to Nigeria.”

Shettima was accompanied by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; Borno State Governor Prof. Babagana Zulum; the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar; and the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia.

Daura was close to Buhari and was considered one of the prominent members of the ‘Buhari cabal’ who many people, including the former First Lady Aisha Buhari believed had influence on the former president.

Buhari died in London on Sunday after a prolonged illness.

The former president will be buried in Daura, Katsina State, on Tuesday.
