BUK expels 171 students over fake admission credentials

The Senate of Bayero University Kano has approved the expulsion of 171 students for presenting falsified admission credentials.

The decision was reached during the university’s 433rd Senate meeting held on March 4, 2026, following the findings of the Senate Committee on Entry Qualification Irregularities.

According to a statement published in the institution’s weekly bulletin, the affected students were found guilty of submitting forged documents during their admission process, an offence that violates Section 20.7, Category A (vii) of the university’s General Examinations and Academic Regulations.

The university stated that the students, drawn from various departments and academic levels, were sanctioned as part of ongoing efforts to preserve the integrity of its academic system.

In a separate case, the Senate also approved the expulsion of a Civil Engineering student, Yusuf Muhammad Sani, over alleged involvement in the physical assault of invigilators during an examination. The incident was said to have disrupted the conduct of the exam and breached the institution’s disciplinary rules.

The management reiterated its commitment to maintaining high standards of academic integrity and discipline, warning that violations of its regulations would continue to attract strict penalties.

It added that the mass expulsion should serve as a strong warning to both current and prospective students, stressing that the university operates a zero-tolerance policy on academic fraud and misconduct.
