By-election: APC wins Babura-Garki federal constituency seat

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Muktar Rabi’u of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the Babura-Garki Federal Constituency by-election in Jigawa State.

The Returning Officer, Prof. Sani Ibrahim-Ismail of the Federal University Dutse, announced the results on Sunday in Babura, headquarters of Babura Local Government Area.

Rabi’u secured 38,449 votes to defeat his closest rival, Isa Auwalu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 13,519 votes. The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) candidate, Sabo Salisu, followed with 2,931 votes, while other parties recorded minimal votes.

Prof. Ibrahim-Ismail certified Rabi’u as duly elected, noting that the poll was peaceful and witnessed a high voter turnout.

The by-election was conducted to fill the vacancy left by the death of Hon. Isa Yaro on May 10, 2024.

Prominent figures, including the Minister of Defence, Badaru Abubakar, and the Minister of State for Education, Mrs. Suwaiba Ahmad, were among voters who participated in the exercise.
