By-election: APC’s Dogari Daje emerges winner of Munya Assembly in Niger

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Mr. Dogari Daje, has emerged winner of the Munya Constituency by-election for the Niger State House of Assembly.

The Returning Officer, Prof. Abdulkarim Saka of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, announced the results on Sunday at the INEC Area Office in Sarkin Pawa, Munya Local Government Area.

Daje polled 12,556 votes to defeat his closest rival, Mr. Sabon Sunday of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who scored 5,646 votes — a margin of 6,910. The APC candidate won in 10 of the 11 wards, while the PDP secured one ward.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Niger, Ahmed Garki, described the election as transparent and credible, while the state Commissioner of Police, Adamu Elleman, commended officers for ensuring a peaceful and violence-free process.

Chairman of Munya Local Government, Mr. Aminu Najume, and the Commissioner for Lands and Survey, Mr. Maurice Majaji, also praised the peaceful atmosphere that allowed voters to exercise their franchise freely.

Some residents, including Prof. Danlaldi Hakimi, attributed the large turnout to the relative peace now being enjoyed in the area. He urged the PDP candidate to accept the outcome in good faith, noting that “it is God who gives power, and only one person can be declared a winner.”
