CAN denies internal split, missing relief funds, threatens legal action

The Christian Association of Nigeria has dismissed allegations of internal division and the diversion of relief funds as false and defamatory, warning that it may pursue legal action against those spreading the claims.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, CAN President Archbishop Daniel Okoh said there was no split, secession, or division within the association, describing reports of a North-South rift as entirely baseless.

The umbrella Christian body also denied receiving or mismanaging funds meant for persecuted Christians in Northern Nigeria, stating that no such funds had been received or diverted under any circumstance.

“The narrative being promoted is a fabrication, calculated to misinform the public, erode trust, and bring the Church into disrepute,” Okoh said.

CAN singled out Rev. Isaac Omolehin, founder of Word Assembly Ministry in Ilorin, accusing him of spreading unverified claims capable of undermining church unity and national cohesion. The association also criticised references made to prominent Christian leaders, including Pastor Enoch Adeboye, Bishop David Oyedepo, and Pastor William Kumuyi, warning that such remarks could mislead the faithful and inflame tensions.

Reaffirming its unity and commitment to accountability, CAN issued what it described as a firm and final caution to those responsible for the allegations.

“Failure to desist will compel the Association to take all necessary steps, including legal action, to protect its integrity,” the statement read.

The association urged the public and media to disregard the allegations and rely only on information from its official channels.
