Nigeria’s Super Eagles B wrapped up their 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) campaign on a high note, defeating Congo 2-0 in their final Group D clash on Tuesday at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Both teams had already been eliminated following earlier results, but Nigeria played for pride and secured their first victory of the tournament.
After a tense, goalless first half, Anas Yusuf broke the deadlock in the 57th minute, netting Nigeria’s first goal of the competition. Substitute Alimi Yusuf sealed the win in stoppage time (93rd minute), punishing Congo’s desperate push for an equaliser.
The result lifted Nigeria to third place in Group D, while Congo finished bottom with just two points.
Despite the victory, the Super Eagles B exit the tournament after losing their opening two games — 0-1 to Senegal and 0-4 to hosts Sudan — which had already ended their qualification hopes.
Head coach Eric Chelle praised his players’ resilience and improved performance, while fans at home expressed mixed feelings: pleased with the win but disappointed by the early elimination.
Senegal and Sudan advanced from the group, leaving Nigeria and Congo to rue missed chances.
