Chelsea have been fined £10.75 million ($14.27 million) and handed a suspended one-year transfer ban for historical breaches of Premier League rules, the league announced on Monday.
In addition to the financial penalty, the club has been given an immediate nine-month ban on registering academy players.
According to the Premier League, the sanctions stem from information disclosed by the consortium led by American businessman Todd Boehly following its takeover of the club from Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich in 2022.
The breaches were uncovered during the review of the club’s previous financial and regulatory records after the ownership change.
While the one-year transfer ban has been suspended, the nine-month academy transfer restriction takes effect immediately. The Premier League said the penalties reflect the seriousness of the historical violations uncovered during the investigation.
